With food allergies, vitamins go into “reserve”

Those who cannot eat fruits and vegetables find it difficult to follow a healthy and balanced diet.

Those who cannot eat fruits and vegetables find it difficult to follow a healthy and balanced diet. Supplements are an option to consider.

A complete and balanced diet is the best tool to stay healthy.

Unfortunately, however, food allergies can make it difficult to ensure the supply of all the nutrients necessary for the proper functioning of the body.

Among these are also included vitamins, which cannot be synthesized by the body must necessarily be introduced with food.

The best sources of these micronutrients are fruits and vegetables. Rich above all in vitamin C and carotene, precursor of vitamin A, these foods represent the basis of a healthy diet and experts recommend the consumption of at least five servings a day.

This goal can be difficult to achieve for that million Italians, in 60% of cases women, who according to estimates are allergic to fruit and vegetables.

If peaches and apricots trigger attacks

The fruits considered most at risk are peaches and apricots, precious sources of carotenes, but there are also situations in which allergy is triggered by walnuts and hazelnuts, strawberries, apples, pears, kiwis and bananas.

In all cases the only way to avoid the appearance of the symptoms of the allergic reaction is to avoid the consumption of the fruit that triggers them.

Continuing to eat it inevitably leads to the appearance of disorders that can only be countered with drugs or, in severe cases of anaphylactic shock, with adrenaline injections.

The risk you run, however, is to run into nutritional deficiencies. For example, a study of children with allergies showed that their diet was poor in vitamins, particularly vitamin A, B1 and B2, C, D and E.

Supplements against deficiencies

Prolonged for long periods, these deficiencies can compromise health. Children allergic to two or more foods, for example, tend to be shorter than average.

Adults, on the other hand, may have to deal with fatigue, difficulty recovering energy after physical activity, problems in wound healing and dry and brittle hair and nails.

To avoid these side effects you can rely on dietary supplements.

If it is true that in the absence of particular health conditions these supplements cannot replace a varied and balanced diet, in cases such as those of fruit allergies they can help prevent the low intake of vitamins from being harmful to the well-being of the body.
