Vitamins: with the right ones, energy is assured

Vitamins and minerals: here are the right ones to fill up on energy

April is a “difficult” month for many. It will be spring, it will be that the good weather invites movement, our body asks for a little more charge. Here’s how to help him.

April is the cruelest month, said the American poet Thomas Stearn Eliot. And he wasn’t wrong.

Because the lengthening of the days, the return of the mild climate and the awakening of nature risk undermining physical resources if adequate support is not provided on the nutritional front.

The increase in physical activity in the open air, the multiplication of travel and social commitments that generally accompany the arrival of summer are associated, in fact, with a natural acceleration of energy metabolism that cannot be compensated only by increasing the daily caloric intake (however, not always necessary).

Choose the right vitamins and start again with sprint

In order for the nutrients contained in food (lipids and carbohydrates, in particular) to be promptly transformed into useful energy for muscles and brain, some microelements that our body is not able to produce are also essential, such as B vitamins and antioxidant vitamins, including vitamin E and vitamin C.

Each vitamin performs a different function, the following table summarizes them.

Vitamin Function
Vitamin B1 and B2 Improve muscle activity, counteracting fatigue and promoting optimal physical fitness
Vitamin B6 and B3 They promote the renewal and integrity of the skin, helping to forget the grayness of winter
Cobalamin Protects brain activity, supporting children and young people in the end-of-year school effort
Vitamin E and C They improve the efficiency of many metabolic processes and therefore have a protective role. Their action is directed to counteract the effect harmful to free radicals and other oxidizing molecules (ROS, peroxides, superoxides, etc.) generated by cellular reactions necessary to produce energy, allowing the body to function optimally and stay healthier

Group B and antioxidants

B vitamins and antioxidants, albeit for different reasons, are useful to everyone and at any age.

In children, they help support intense physical activity, the mental effort required by the study, the increased metabolic speed associated with growth and the immune defenses repeatedly stimulated by respiratory infections and other common ailments in the change of season.

In adults, they are essential to ensure prompt reactivity at work and greater vitality to face the thousand daily tasks without risking feeling too tired or nervous.

In the elderly, they allow to compensate for the natural decline in metabolic efficiency and immune defenses associated with advancing age, allowing to maintain a better general well-being throughout the year.

Suitable foods and supplements

How do you get all the micronutrients you need to face a new spring with momentum? First of all, follow a varied, balanced and quality diet.

Enrich our table with a diet rich in fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables, fish, light dairy products and lots of liquids (water, fruit juices and vegetable centrifuges, milk, etc.), which will also help to lose those 2-3 extra kilos accumulated during the winter and detoxify the body.

Then, to ensure an adequate daily intake of micronutrients, you can resort to vitamin and mineral supplements rich in B vitamins and antioxidants.

With a caveat: as in all rebalancing interventions, to obtain tangible benefits you need to have a little patience and take vitamin supplements regularly at the dosage indicated on the packages for at least 15 days. It’s worth it.
