Vitamins that slow down the “autumn” of hair

Reduce hair loss by being careful with your diet. Here’s how.

In men, this season, hair loss is a widespread phenomenon. To counteract it there are various “tricks”, starting with a diet rich in vitamins and minerals.

The leaves fall out, and the hair also falls out. In autumn it happens to many men to find them entangled in strands on the comb or on the bottom of the shower.

There is no need to be alarmed: according to experts, this phenomenon is part of the natural phase of hair replacement that becomes more evident during the passages between the seasons.

The hair, in fact, follows its own life cycle, marked by a rhythm that undergoes seasonal influences and that varies from individual to individual.

Like a biological clock

The continuous renewal is divided into three phases in which “activity” and rest alternate: growth (called anagen) lasts on average 3-6 years and allows the hair to grow 0.3-0.4 mm per day, the involution phase (catagen) lasts 2-3 weeks and involves the arrest of growth and atrophy of the bulb; Finally, in the telogen phase (from 2 to 4 months), the hair ceases all vital activity and is ready to fall out.

It is a sort of biological clock that can undergo alterations, resulting in hair loss higher than normal replacement.

It happens especially in seasonal changes, when the whole body undergoes a phase of adaptation to the new diet and to the changing external temperatures.

To favor the excessive fall there are also other factors, such as psychophysical stress, unbalanced diets, smoking, taking certain drugs and, in women, hormonal alterations related to particular periods such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, menopause.

Here’s what to avoid

To keep all this at bay, the first rule is to take care of your hair, avoiding for example aggressive shampoos, permanent colors or unsuitable cosmetic products.

Bad habits should also be banned, such as tying the hair tightly, brushing it vigorously and subjecting it to excessive sources of heat (too powerful hair dryers).

More attention to the diet

A healthy and balanced diet is the best strategy to keep your hair healthy.

It has been shown that foods rich in proteinsvitamins and minerals, in addition to nourishing the body, also strengthen the hair.

For example, some studies have found that vitamin C is essential in the production of collagen, the fundamental constituent of hair fiber.

Vitamin A, on the other hand, plays an important role in skin regeneration processes, as well as a high antioxidant power.

B vitamins are also fundamental, involved in the synthesis of keratin, the protein that is one of the main components of hair. They also play a role in cellular energy metabolism and the action of contrast against stress, one of the main reasons for excessive thinning and falling.

Finally, minerals should not be forgotten. Iron, for example, plays a key role in hair regrowth processes as it transports the necessary oxygen to the cells. Or zinc, which intervenes in the synthesis of keratin, and copper, as it participates in the synthesis of melanin, the protein that colors the hair.
