Vitamins, here are the right ones to lose weight

Vitamins, an all-sprint help even for those who want to lose weight.

Deciding to lose a few pounds is often a very healthy choice, but it must be faced with the right approach: a balanced diet and the help of vitamins.

Password: avoid improvising. And, above all, ban strict regimens and flash diets, inevitably unbalanced from a nutritional point of view: in addition to being often harmful to the body, they are also useless and counterproductive.

The risk is to deprive the body of some essential nutrients for maintaining an optimal state of health. And then, to see the balance return to its initial position as soon as the diet is interrupted.

To a drastic calorie restriction, in fact, the body reacts by triggering “saving” mechanisms: the metabolism tends to slow down to reduce consumption. In this way, as soon as you resume your usual diet, the body can no longer consume the extra calories introduced and stores them, regaining the pounds previously lost.

Rely on a specialist

It is necessary to assess the situation on a case-by-case basis and identify the dietary and behavioral errors that led to weight gain.

In case of a situation already “compromised” as a result of too unbalanced diets, the specialist can also recommend the intake of specific multivitamin supplements in order to rebalance any nutritional imbalances and supply the body with the vital substances it needs.

The advice of experts is to follow a varied and balanced diet, possibly reducing portions and learning to measure condiments. And to improve the chances of success of the diet, we can ask for help from certain vitamins and antioxidants.

Reaching your ideal weight must be a gradual path. To know your ideal weight, it is useful to calculate the body mass index (BMI) by dividing the weight, expressed in kg, by the square of the height, expressed in meters. The result is compared with a specific table that allows determine if you are underweight, normal weight, overweight and obesity.

Underweight BMI < 18.9
Normal weight BMI 19-24.9
Overweight BMI 25-29.9
First-degree obesity BMI 30-34.9
Obesity of the second degree BMI 35-39.9
Extreme obesity BMI > 40

Vitamin D increases the chances of success

According to what was discussed during the 91st Annual Meeting of the Endocrine Society, the presence of adequate levels of vitamin D in the body could lead to the successful adoption of a low-calorie diet.

Researchers at the University of Minnesota have found that vitamin D deficiency is associated with obesity, although it is still unclear whether inadequate levels of the vitamin cause obesity or whether this condition is causing obesity deficiency.

The fact is that, according to their study, higher levels of vitamin D correspond to a greater probability of success of a possible diet, and in direct proportion.

Supplements of vitamin D during a low-calorie diet could therefore lead to more substantial weight loss, even if further confirmations are needed in this regard.

Antioxidants: allies in the fight against overweight

The fundamental role of antioxidants in counteracting aging processes has long been recognized. Recently, however, another unexpected action seems to have been added: the areas of the brain responsible for controlling the stimuli of hunger and satiety would use fats As “fuel” through the involvement of free radicals.

For this reason, researchers at the US Yale School of Medicine hypothesize that the action of antioxidants, by interfering with them, could also influence the stimuli of hunger and satiety, allowing for weight control interventions.

It has been noted that the increase in hunger induced by ghrelin, a hormone produced in the stomach and associated with the sense of appetite, is driven by the use of fat as an energy source, a process by which free radicals are generated.

For this reason, if antioxidants on an empty stomach can increase hunger, taken with food they can instead promote a sense of satiety. However, even for this hypothesis, further confirmatory studies are needed.

More calcium , less fat

Calcium exerts a positive function on body weight control, favoring the disposal of fats. This is according to nutritionist Michael Zemel of the University of Knoxville, Tennessee.

In fact, the scholar subjected some obese people to a low-calorie diet (reduction of 500 kcal per day) and to calcium supplements (providing one group with 1,100 mg per day, and another with only 500 mg) for 12 weeks.

After this period, the first group recorded significant reductions in weight and fat mass, loss of abdominal adiposity and reductions in waist circumference, data that were much milder in the group that took a lower dose of calcium.

The merit, Zemel explains, is in the ability of calcium to influence lipid Metabolism , allowing rapid weight loss without reducing lean body mass.

In particular, calcium appears to act as a stimulator of thermogenesis, the process by which fat molecules are “burned” to produce energy, and as an inhibitor of lipogenesis, i.e. by suppressing the production of new lipids in adipose tissue.

The nutritionist’s message is therefore not to eliminate dairy products unnecessarily from the diet. Provided, of course, they are low in calories and fat.
