There are those who spend the winter in hibernation, but as soon as they stop working they launch into every sport and activity available. Nothing bad, except that nutrition also has to keep up.
It makes you want to move more. Maybe to spend a few mornings jogging. Or to cycle or go for a swim. In summer even the laziest feel growing inside the sacred fire of the sportsman. It is certainly positive: physical activity is always good, even if done only in summer.
Slowly, if you are not used to it
Of course you have to go slowly: those who are not trained must provide a period of light physical activity, at the beginning, increasing the intensity of the effort and duration progressively. Without forgetting to always do some warm-up before the sports session, and stretching after.
Even the feeding, if you move more than usual, must vary. And depending on the performance you want to achieve, it would be advisable to balance the various nutrients in order to avoid problems.
For example, if you want to strengthen your muscles, maybe with fitness we will have to provide our body with a greater amount of protein, which will be used for the “construction” of tissues.
If, on the other hand, you want to engage in a competition with another sports holidaymaker, it is preferable to fill up on carbohydrates, which guarantee new energy.
More attention to vitamins
The ones to keep an eye on are the B vitamins. Involved in many processes that involve energy production, these vitamins are all water-soluble, so the body cannot stock up, it cannot accumulate them.
It is therefore easy with the heat and physical effort to go into reserve. It is not a real vitamin deficiency, it is a slight deficit.
Nutritionists, on this, have no doubts: a varied and balanced diet allows you to guarantee the body an adequate intake of B vitamins even if you support a strong physical activity.
But are we sure to always succeed in following a varied and balanced diet? In summer it is easy to skip a lunch, because the appetite is poor because of the heat or because you spend the day at the beach.
The same goes for the other water-soluble vitamin, C. If you think you can’t eat enough fresh fruits and vegetables and you subject your body to a little more physical activity than normal, you should ask your pharmacist for a product to supplement the vitamins you need.
