Sore throat: what to do to prevent it

With autumn also come the first sore throats. Here’s how to prevent it.

With autumn and its classic temperature changes also come the first cooling disorders, including sore throat. Let’s see how to defend ourselves in advance

With the beginning of the new school year, the resumption of work and play activities, such as attending a gym, and the first temperature changes of an increasingly capricious climate, the first cooling disorders, including sore throats, are also repeated.

The dynamics that promote these forms, which offer a preview of the cold season, are always the same: a cover with clothing that is not suitable for unexpected drops or sudden rises in temperature, crowding in rooms kept closed and perhaps with little air exchange, direct interpersonal contacts.

Not to mention the role of children who act as a quick vehicle from one community to another.

First in question: viruses

At the beginning of autumn the causes of sore throat, at least in its initial phase, are mainly viral: they are mostly parainfluenza viruses, rhinoviruses and adenoviruses.

All microorganisms typically responsible for respiratory infections and with a high capacity for contamination both interpersonal and the environment, being able to spread to billions through coughs, sneezes, droplets of saliva, accessories and objects of personal use or in close proximity to the affected individual.

There is therefore no need to be alarmed, but neither is there any need to resign oneself to succumbing or to trust in a forgiving fate.

Not just annoying

The disorder does not only cause discomfort. Also because sore throat does not only involve discomfort for swallowing, phonation and night rest, but can also be a condition favoring the implantation of other agents, this time of a bacterial nature.

Or the extension of inflammation to other districts of the respiratory tree, especially the middle ear (especially in children), trachea and bronchi.

In this case, the immediate consequence is the continuation of the symptom, which in the milder forms lasts on average 2-3 days.

The first weapons to protect yourself

Respecting basic hygiene rules, starting with frequent hand washing, and reducing or possibly avoiding exposure to cigarette smoke and other irritating factors are among the first measures for prevention.

How, after all, to maintain the right environmental humidity and, if you have to talk a lot, “manage” your voice wisely, allowing yourself some breaks and drinking often during the day, even in the absence of thirst.

But, if even the most scrupulous attention is not enough and the throat begins to burn, the first thing to do is undoubtedly not to waste time. It is in fact a widespread habit to wait to see the evolution of the disorder, or in the belief / hope that it is a temporary annoyance.

Don’t wait for treatment

This is the time to start intervening, not only to alleviate or rather eliminate unnecessary suffering, but also to immediately limit inflammation and reduce, as far as possible, the subsequent need for drugs.

The use of natural remedies is outlined as the most functional strategy to “attack” the sore throat immediately, or keep it under control in case it tends to persist.

Propolis and thyme, in particular, are two precious ingredients. Let’s see how they work:

Propolis It brings various benefits, among which the antimicrobial action against viruses and bacteria stands out (it is no coincidence that in ancient times it was used to heal wounds).
Thyme It works in synergy with propolis, contrasting the inflammation process and having a pleasant soothing effect.

Formulations for all tastes

The availability of various preparations that combine these two principles, from chewable and buccal tablets to pearls and sprays, makes it possible to satisfy every need, starting from the practicality of use.

It also offers children all the advantages of an effective, pleasant, safe and undesirable solution.

It should be remembered that thyme and propolis can also be used as a preventive measure for other colds, especially in conjunction with the periods of greatest diffusion of these ailments, as they associate the balsamic action with a favorable intervention on the defensive system.
