Smoking: quitting before the “doors” is better

If you get out of the habit before the age of 40 you regain years of life.

Smokers who quit their last cigarette before turning forty have a life expectancy almost equal to that of those who have never lit one.

To say it is an extensive research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association by a group of experts from the University of Toronto, Canada.

In practice, statistics say that smoking shortens life by about ten years. Provided, however, that you continue until the end to turn on several a day. If you quit between the ages of 35 and 44, the negative effect of “blondes” is reduced: one year less than those who do not smoke.

If, on the other hand, you stop between 45 and 54 you live “only” four years less. And those who quit between the ages of 55 and 65 can count on a reduced expectancy of six years. So, the sooner you stop the more you regain years of life.

But be careful: this does not mean that those who smoke only at a young age will not suffer the consequences. Even if you quit, your risk of lung cancer and other respiratory diseases is not erased.

What makes the difference is above all the probability of suffering a heart attack and stroke, which is reduced a lot when you manage to get out of the habit of smoking.
