Sensitive skin: in summer it is better to be careful

It must be protected with appropriate products, without ever lowering our guard.

The vulnerability of sensitive skin is accentuated during the summer season: protect it with ad hoc products, without ever lowering your guard.

If the cold temperatures of winter are certainly not a panacea for those with sensitive skin, even the heat, the continuous exposure to ultraviolet rays and the ease of dehydration typical of summer are no less.

Sensitive skin is in fact by definition more reactive to atmospheric agents – and not only – and must therefore be cared for and “pampered” throughout the year, but with specific treatments and products depending on the season.

Identikit of sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is sensitive because it contains less lipids than normal: being more permeable than normal skin, it is also more vulnerable. For this reason it appears thin, dry, reddens easily and tends to crack and peel.

It is therefore necessary to use ad hoc cosmetics and not to exceed with the use of detergents, as each wash further depletes the skin of lipids.

This type of skin is usually present from birth and is a permanent condition, but it can be accentuated by various factors (such as stress or seasonal changes) and of course by the use of too aggressive products.

Under the sun

If oily skin benefits greatly from the sun, the same cannot be said for sensitive skin, which needs even more attention in summer.

Continuous exposure to sunlight can easily cause annoying sunburn or burns and dry up already very dry skin.

That is why during this season the watchwords must be “exfoliate”, “moisturize” and “protect”.

Exfoliating means eliminating dead skin cells to promote its regeneration. There are many products on the market for peeling or scrubs, to be chosen carefully depending on the degree of “sensitivity” of your skin.

Moisturizing is essential throughout the year, but in summer the skin tends to lose even more water, increasing the annoying sensation of “skin pulling”. You will therefore have to apply several times during the day, especially after a long exposure to the sun, products with an emollient action that can make your skin more elastic. You can also hydrate it “from the inside”, drinking a lot and eating fruit and vegetables at will.

Protecting yourself from ultraviolet rays is of great importance, especially in summer, and for any type of skin. Those who have sensitive skin will have to pay even more attention, scrupulously following all the rules for proper exposure to the sun. So choose a sunscreen with a high protection factor and suitable for your skin type, possibly hypoallergenic and that does not contain perfumes; Expose yourself to the sun gradually, always avoiding the central hours of the day and also protecting yourself with clothing such as a hat. And finally, never let your guard down, even if you feel less the heat of the sun’s rays, which however still affect your skin: maximum attention therefore even if the sky is covered with clouds or a strong wind blows.
