Has the long winter season made us lazy and made us a little depressed? It’s time to get out into the fresh air and regain dormant vitality. But be careful not to overdo it: here are some useful tips.
It would seem counterintuitive, but spring aches. The warm air and the first sunny days certainly encourage you to resume or increase sports activities, especially outdoors, and to spend long evenings with friends.
Yet something is holding us back: it is spring sickness or, as others call it, seasonal “sickness de vivre”. Whatever name is given to it, in short, it is a combination of depression and a sense of fatigue.
The cure? Do not give in to indolence and start planning (and following) any physical activity. At the same time helping our body with an adequate supply of nutrients so as not to risk running out of energy too quickly.
Sport and open air to regenerate
First of all, we find an activity that amuses us and that is not too tiring, better if to be done outdoors: it frees the mind, dissolves tensions and facilitates night sleep. All to benefit from an “awakening” of the organism and a remise en forme.
Be careful, however, not to exceed. Intense physical efforts and days too full of commitments, between work and social activities, subject the body to excessive stress if we do not get used to it gradually.
We nourish body and mind properly
Therefore, gradually resuming the activities abandoned in the winter months and guaranteeing the body adequate quantities of detoxifying and energizing nutrients is the right way to face the summer in the best way.
The intake of vitamins and minerals is always very important, but it becomes even more so in the changes of season.
For this reason, a complete and varied diet, based on fruit and vegetables in quantity, a correct intake of carbohydrates and proteins and plenty of water are essential.
In this way we can supply our body with energizing and antioxidant elements, and help it eliminate all the toxins accumulated during the winter.
Ad hoc vitamins and minerals
Among the energizing factors, B vitamins. They improve the assimilation of carbohydrates and proteins, and stimulate metabolic processes by strengthening muscles and nervous system.
Among the antioxidants, however, we find in the first places vitamin C and vitamin E, which contribute to protection from oxidative stress.
And then, mineral salts in abundance. Not only because of their important direct activities, but also because some vitamins need adequate amounts of minerals and trace elements to be used by the body.
Calcium, iron, zinc, copper, magnesium and manganese must therefore be introduced in adequate quantities.
However, nutrition is not always sufficient. Especially in seasonal changes, as in other conditions in which the body’s demands increase, it may therefore be appropriate to resort to supplements.
In the pharmacy we can certainly find those who recommend the one that best suits our needs.
