Fight against wrinkles: tricks to defeat them

Skin aging is a slow and gradual phenomenon, but inexorable. The only consolation is that a lot depends on us…

The expression wrinkles, those that appear around the eyes – the so-called crow’s feet – and on the forehead, are the first to occur, followed by a heaviness of the nasogenieni furrows (which join the wings of the nose with the ends of the mouth), by a loss of tone and elasticity of the skin of the face and by the appearance of irregularities in the complexion (the so-called age spots, caused mainly by sun exposure).

The timing of this process does not depend only on biological age and the set of genes of our DNA, but other factors also play a fundamental role: what we eat, how we behave, how we take care of our skin.

This is why the fight against wrinkles and skin aging in general can be fought on many fronts: from nutrition to cosmetic treatments, from sunscreen to aesthetic medicine interventions up to real plastic surgery.

Nourishing the skin well keeps it young

When we talk about proper nutrition we tend to think only about maintaining body weight.

The skin and skin appendages -hair and nails- are the mirror of an adequate diet that must provide not only energy, but also all the essential nutrients, namely carbohydrateslipids, vitamins, minerals and water.

Attention, therefore, to what you put on your plate, especially when you do low-calorie diets to lose weight.

Without the supervision of a doctor, they can be inadequate from the point of view of proteins, vitamins and minerals, also because DIY diets often completely exclude some foods, replaced by others low in calories. The result can be an optimal waistline, but a dull, dehydrated and wrinkled skin.

Smoke and sun leave their mark Another sworn enemy of youth, then, is cigarette smoke. It induces, in fact, the production of high amounts of metalloproteinase, which destroy collagen.

The effects, proven by many studies, are visible in the so-called “smoker’s face”: accentuated crow’s feet, atrophic and relaxed skin, wrinkles around the lips, finer lines on the cheeks and jaws.

Overall, the skin of the face loses elasticity and becomes dry, rough and not very compact, while the complexion is uneven due to poor oxygenation of the blood. It must be said, however, that skin damage from smoking is reversible: if you stop, the skin gradually returns to normal.

Which does not happen, unfortunately, for the signs of photoaging. Sun exposure ages the skin prematurely, inducing, among other effects, the degradation of elastic fibers, collagen and elastin, which support the skin structure.

Avoid prolonged exposure and always use, summer and winter, anti-UVA and UVB sunscreens are essential steps to prevent the formation of “avoidable” wrinkles. It is useless to spend on creams or aesthetic or surgical treatments when smoking and loving to make lizards in the sun. This is nonsense. And they throw money away.

Elixir in cream

Cosmetological research has really made great strides in the fight against wrinkles. Suffice it to say that in the latest generation anti-aging creams there are functional substances capable of acting right at the heart of fibroblasts, the cells responsible for the synthesis of collagen and elastin, thanks to molecular vectors that bring the active ingredients where they must act.

We have the possibility of having unprecedented concentrations of active substances, achievable thanks to advances in formulation technique.

New fields of research, such as skin bioreading, have produced formulations capable of emitting biolept impulses that reactivate and accelerate cellular mechanisms slowed down by age.

And again, studies on the role of mitochondrial alteration in accelerated skin aging have allowed the creation of specific products.

Today anti-aging lines offer targeted solutions for every type of aging: first wrinkles, sagging skin, loss of density, hormonal aging. Just ask and the dermocosmetic counter offers a series of solutions unimaginable only a few years ago.

Of course, we are talking about treatments that must be used consistently to show their effectiveness, which give gradual results, improve the quality of the skin (brightness, elasticity and tone) and reduce wrinkles.

Password: smooth out

Those who want quick results must resort to the more or less invasive techniques of aesthetic medicine or surgery. The solutions are many and must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the aesthetic doctor.

Now the practice is the combination of different techniques to obtain the best results: peeling, which eliminates small wrinkles and reduces deep ones, fillers, which fill the furrows from the inside, botulinum toxin, effective on expression wrinkles.

Not to mention the various forms of biorevitalization, which consists of injections based on vitamins, amino acids, minerals, coenzymes and other active substances that increase cell vitality, collagen production and skin rejuvenation.

And again lipofilling, a technique that consists in returning to the aged face (but it is also used on the hands) the lost volumes by injecting where needed the autologous purified fat, that is, extracted from the same patient.

The facelift of Chinese tradition

There are many Italians who rely on traditional Chinese medicine, of which acupuncture is the undisputed queen, to solve small pathologies, relieve pain or stop smoking.

But perhaps not everyone knows that it can also be used to reduce wrinkles and restore a fresher and smoother appearance to the skin of the face and body.

It is the technique of needlelifting: it consists in applying needles in some particular points of the face and body to obtain a decontraction of the muscles of the face, with a relaxing effect on expression wrinkles, and the increase of hydration and skin tone of the whole body.

The treatment is not painful and has no side effects or contraindications and at least a dozen sessions are necessary to obtain a visible result.

It is not comparable to a surgical facelift, clearly the effect is more natural, the appearance improves session after session, without sudden upheavals. It is the choice for those who want to improve without entering the operating room.

The effect depends from person to person, as well as the duration of the benefit. Needle lifting is often associated with homeopathic biorevitalization, with micro punctures of collagen and diluted vitamins, on wrinkle and other acupuncture points.
